Megamind and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Halloween costumes!

I love kids movies and two of my recent favorites are Megamind and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs! In order to create a Megamind and Flint Lockwood costume I had to become a bit creative.

For Megamind I needed a big blue head. I made my head using a paper mache and blue tissue paper. Using tissue paper made the head light weight and not as hot as if I had used thicker paper. For the shirt I sewed a piece of blue fabric on a black shirt.

For Flint Lockwood it was a lot easier to make the costume but I really wanted a Steve! to carry around with me. So I took a sock monkey and added some felt and viola:

Pumpkins!

I LOVE Halloween! dressing up, pumpkin pie and pumpkin carving!

A few years ago me and a friend of mine bought four pumpkins and a pumpkin carving tool kit and I have been hooked ever since!

To make crazy designs and look like a pro it is really helpful to buy a pumpkin carving knife:

They sell these at supermarkets, drug stores, etc. They look flimsy but they are great at craving detailed designs and smooth corners.

And there are so many examples and stencils out there it is easy to go wild!

Here are some of the pumpkins I have carved:

From left to right: a witch stirring a cauldron, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, a ghost, R2-D2
Here are some closeups:

Owl & Penguin Cell Phone Cases

I decided to make my own cell phone cases. Clearly I didn't have the right colours for a penguin at the time that I made the 2 penguins below...
I have attached a stencil if you want to make your own.

Mr. Octopus

I saw some amazingly cute octopi on Cheek and Stitch (http://cheekandstitch.com/) and I wanted to make some of my own. I modified a pattern that I found on this site: http://dux-x-bellorum.deviantart.com/art/Octopus-Pattern-284964341 to make my own octopus (with mustache and top hat)!

Steve and Sophia the Stegosauruses

I found the idea (and stencil) for these adorable Stegosauruses on the following site: http://dux-x-bellorum.deviantart.com/art/Steggy-Pattern-274061267 . I wanted the tail to be different so I modified the stencil and made my own.

Owl Galentine's Day Card

For Galentine's Day (http://parksandrecreation.wikia.com/wiki/Galentine's_Day_(event)) my Guide unit made these adorable owls cards with puns on them like: "Owl be your valentine".

Felt Hair Accessories

Here is another craft I did with my Girl Guides - felt hair accessories!

I gave the girls the template below & some felt and told them to go wild. Lots of the girls wanted to create their own felt creations (I saw a dragonfly, a mustache, a platypus and Pac-man) but it is nice to give them some ideas to work off from. In the pictures above and below you can see that I sewed together my examples but we used glue guns with the Guides to make things faster. Once they had finished their felt creation we stuck them on head bands, hair clips, and hair ties.
